Linux PC players may finally get an official Epic Games Store app. The Verge, citing VideoCardz, reports a staffer in Epic’s community Discord said a native Linux launcher is in the works. It will not be in the next preview build, but the word used was “soon.” Today, most people on Steam Deck, Bazzite, or desktop Linux reach Epic titles through third-party tools such as Heroic Games Launcher.
A first-party client would mean fewer broken logins, fewer overlay hacks, and a real path for Fortnite, Rocket League, and Epic exclusives on SteamOS-class machines. It also tells you Epic sees Linux handhelds as a market, not a hobby forum. “Soon” is not a date. Do not uninstall Heroic this weekend. Do watch the next Epic preview notes.
If the Linux app ships with the same catalog and cloud saves as Windows, the Deck and the coming wave of ARM/x86 handhelds get a lot less awkward. If it ships as a thin web wrapper with half the store missing, Heroic stays the real client. The confirmation itself is the news: Epic is done pretending Linux is only a server OS.
