ZDNet Korea reporting via 9to5Google says Samsung cannot build Galaxy Z Fold 8 units fast enough even after planning roughly a million extra phones. The bottleneck is display driver ICs (DDIs) from Taiwan foundry UMC on 22nm — capacity is maxed. Samsung’s fix is blunt: pull DDI volume already earmarked for 2027 products and run “express” production for Fold 8.
U.S. Samsung.com stock has been patchy since launch. Omdia separately projects foldable shipments roughly doubling toward ~36 million units by 2028, so this is not a one-week blip — it is supply chain triage on a category finally selling through. If you wanted a Fold 8 at list without waiting, the parts war explains the empty carts.
