Alongside new hardware, Sonos is versioning its platform as “Sonos 27” — annual OS-style numbering after the disastrous 2024 app rewrite that cost features, stability, and eventually CEO Patrick Spence. Engadget says Sonos 27 refreshes the app UI and, more importantly, lets users connect outside AI assistants and agents (including ChatGPT) to control the system.
“Sonos Fabric” is a new sensing layer so products recognize siblings in a room — for example, Move 2 or Era speakers placed behind a couch can auto-role as surrounds for a soundbar — with Ace Ultra headphones also plugging into Fabric behaviors. The bet: software trust returns only if agents and auto-config feel boringly reliable this time.
